A 54-year-old Maryland woman died following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in Laurel, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. September 15 at Salt Barn Road and Old Stage Road. Police said a Ford Maverick was traveling westbound on Salt Barn Road toward a stop sign at Old Stage Road while a Honda HR-V was traveling southbound on Old Stage Road.
A preliminary investigation determined that the Ford failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the driver’s side of the Honda, according to police.
The driver of the Honda, a 54-year-old woman from Mardela Springs, Maryland, was transported to an area hospital, where she later died. Her name is being withheld pending notification of her family.
The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old Laurel man, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Old Stage Road was closed for approximately three hours while investigators examined the scene and the roadway was cleared. The crash remains under investigation by Delaware State Police.
