A 24-year-old man was arrested following an investigation into the theft of more than $1,450 worth of kratom-containing products from a gas station in Middletown.
Police investigated two thefts involving Electro Dream Plant liquid at the Valero gas station on East Main Street on August 1 and August 10, 2026. The products contain kratom, a substance sometimes referred to as “Truck Stop Heroin.” Several states have taken regulatory action involving kratom amid concerns about its potential adverse health effects.
On August 13, officers arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the thefts. He was charged with two counts of shoplifting and released on a $900 unsecured bond. The man’s identity and additional details surrounding the thefts were not disclosed.
Although the incidents occurred in August, the information has only recently become available for public reporting. Middletown Police do not routinely publish detailed information about individual criminal investigations and arrests in real time, resulting in delays between when incidents occur and when information becomes publicly available.
