A 15-year-old Middletown High School student was arrested Tuesday after a school resource officer and staff recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and a 4-inch knife from his crossbody bag.
On the morning of October 27, 2026, the school resource officer learned that the student allegedly displayed a knife and made threatening statements the previous day. A concerned parent reported the incident to the school, located at 120 Silver Lake Road, prompting an investigation. Staff determined the student had not yet arrived.
When the student arrived at approximately 10:40 a.m., the officer and school staff approached him and escorted him into an empty classroom. Police said he refused to surrender his bookbag and crossbody bag and resisted, leading to a struggle. The officer and staff secured both bags and discovered the handgun and knife inside the crossbody bag.
The student was charged with five felonies involving possession of a firearm, ammunition and a deadly weapon, along with possession of a weapon in a safe recreation zone and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to a juvenile detention center on a $70,100 cash bond.
