November 3, 2026 · By First State Update News Room

A fire that broke out inside a Wilmington home early Tuesday morning sent one resident to the hospital and left the property damaged.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of East 6th Street at approximately 12:15 a.m. on November 3, 2026, where they found a fire burning on the second floor of a two-story, end-of-row residence.

All occupants managed to escape before firefighters arrived. One resident suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Crews brought the fire under control within 20 minutes, containing the flames to the second floor. However, smoke and water damage extended throughout the home, and an adjoining residence sustained minor smoke damage.

Approximately 35 firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded, including six Wilmington Fire Department engine and ladder companies, two battalion chiefs, a Wilmington Fire Department ambulance, and New Castle County Paramedics.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office.
