Wilmington – On Wednesday May 10, 2017 at approximately 10:43 PM, Wilmington Police Officers were dispatched to 8th and Windsor Streets in reference to a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers located a 30-year-old female victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her lower, right leg, according to police. The victim was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Hospital in stable condition.
Officials said the preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects, described as juvenile males who were alleged to have been involved in this shooting may have fled into a residence located in the 600 block W. 8th Street. Uniformed Officers, including K-9 Officers, surrounded the residence and contact was made with the occupants of the dwelling, including five juvenile males and two adults.
Criminal Investigations Division Detectives with the assistance of Uniform Services Division officers, continued their investigation and were able to recover two handguns inside the residence. Officials said that through investigative measures, a 14-year-old juvenile male located inside of the dwelling was identified as the suspect in the shooting investigation from 8th and Windsor Street.
The 14-year-old juvenile male defendant was transported to police headquarters and booked on the following charges.
* Assault 1st Degree
* Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
* Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited-Juvenile
The juvenile defendant was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $12,000 Cash Bail in addition to $10,500 Secured Bail.
