Update: Man With Lacerations To His Head Rescued From Delaware River

Near Salem, New Jersey – Just after 11 a.m. this morning, Monday May 15, rescue crews were dispatched to the Delaware River, in the area of the Hope Creek Nuclear Plant, for a report of a person in distress after a sailboat accident.

Rescue boats from New Castle County and Trooper 4 (State Police Helicopter) were sent to search for the boat.

Crews were able to locate the vessel and rescue the a 57-year-old man. Reports from the scene indicate that the man may have been knocked unconscious but was alert during transport back to shore via rescue boat.

The reports also indicated that rescuers were able to stop the mans bleeding from two serious lacerations, one to the top and one back of his head.  The man appeared to be in a confused state and did not remember what happened, according to the reports.

Trooper 4 landed at Augustine Beach Access Area, about 4 miles south of the C & D Canal, to await the rescue boat carrying the patient.

After evaluating the patient it was determined that he would be transported to the hospital via ground ambulance.
