Man Found Floating In River Identified

Newport – Delaware State Police continue to investigate the death of a male subject whose body was found floating in the Christina River Saturday morning.

The investigation began on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at approximately 7:45 a.m., as a Newark man was on his fishing boat in the Christina River in the area of the Newport boat ramp, located on Thomas Way, Newport. It was at this time that the subject observed the body of a male floating in the river.

The man then requested that a second individual, who was at the boat ramp, contact 9-1-1 as he secured the body to his boat and brought it to the boat ramp. Officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the Newport Police who had arrived at the scene, then assisted in securing the body at the dock. The male victim was declared dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.

He was then turned over to the Division of Forensic Sciences who positively identified the subject as a 35-year-old Wilmington man. The identity of the male victim is being withheld at this time as the cause of death has yet to be determined, police said.

If anyone has any information in reference to this incident they are asked to contact the Detective Amy Lloyd at 302-365-8411.
