One Arrested and One Still being Sought in Robbery in Harrington

Harrington – Police said that on August 9, 2016 the officers arrested one man in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the Bridle Bit Liquors on South DuPont Hwy. in Harrington on July 29th.

On July 29th officers on patrol were alerted to an armed robbery at the Bridle Bit. Police arrived and determined that two suspects entered the store, wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered and confronted store employees. One of the suspects displayed a handgun, according to police.

The suspects then fled with alcohol and undisclosed amount of cash. Officers searched the area and conducted a K-9 Track but were unable to locate the suspects, police said. Officers then continued to investigate the robbery. Authorities said that during the course of their investigation they obtained information linking Shaiheme D. Edwards 18, of Clarks Corner Apartments in Harrington to the Robbery. On August 9th police went to Mr. Edwards residence with a search warrant and located Mr. Edwards hiding under a bed in a second floor bedroom, police said.

Police then took him into custody without incident. Police also executed another search warrant at another residence in Harrington and took a second person of interest into custody. That person was questioned and later released without being charged.

Mr. Edwards was taken to the Harrington Police Department and was questioned and then processed. Mr. Edwards was charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Aggravated Menacing, Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony, Conspiracy Second Degree, Offensive Touching and Resisting Arrest.

He was arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in default of $62,500 secured bail.
