Police: Restaurant Destroyed By Drunk Driver

Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Bethany Beach and Indian River responded to a fire at Ed’s Chicken in Dewey Beach 2110 Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach just after 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The restaurant was completely destroyed after a vehicle heading southbound on Route 1 jumped the median and plowed into the building. Officers from the Dewey Beach Police pulled the driver who was uninjured from the vehicle before the fire engulfed the building.

Firefighters battled the fire for 2 hours before bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported and the Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.

The driver was arrested on for DUI, according to police.
