Police said that around 9:22 p.m. Friday September 9, 2016 as Chad W. Everett, 45 of Seaford, was operating a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound on Sussex Highway (US13) in the right lane approaching Chipmans Lane.

A male pedestrian ran across the southbound lanes of US13 and directly into the side of the PT Cruiser before landing on the pavement, according to police. The PT Cruiser was able to come to a controlled stop after the collision.

Officials said that the adult male pedestrian from Mexico, who’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Chad Everett was properly restrained and was uninjured.

Police said that alcohol may have been a factor on behalf of the pedestrian who was wearing  dark clothing and was not carrying a flashlight.  US13 southbound at Chipmans Lane was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared
