Police: Man Threatens Gov. Markell

Middletown The Delaware State Police have arrested a Warwick, MD man and have charged him in connection with the on-line social media posting of a threat against the Governor of Delaware.

Troopers said that on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at approximately 6:15 p.m., after they were called to respond to a residence located in the 300 block of Pheasant Drive, Middletown. Upon their arrival the troopers said they were advised by a female resident of the home, that she, as well as the Governor of Delaware, Jack Markell, had been threatened via a Facebook post by a male subject she identified as Roger M. Matthews, 51.

The female victim advised that Matthews is a relative of one of her family members. Troopers then reviewed the post which in fact did contain threats against Governor Markell, according top police.

On Tuesday, November 8th, Troopers were able to take Roger Matthews into custody without incident. He was then transported to Troop 2 where he was subsequently charged with Threatening the Life of a Public Official. He was arraigned at JP Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $4000.00 cash bond
