Teen Charged With Auto Theft

Newark – New Castle County Police said that on Friday 11/4/2016 Patrol Squad C officers responded to the unit block of Brookedge Court (Iron Hill Apartments) for the theft of a car.  Officers contacted the victim and learned he left his 1998 Infiniti sedan unattended to warm up.  When he returned to his vehicle it was missing.

The vehicle was recovered on Thursday 11/17/2016 in the community of Hampton Green in front of a home in the unit block of Baylis Street, according to police. The vehicle was processed for evidence which was collected by a responding officer. The next day, officers learned the evidence collected allegedly linked the teen to the vehicle.

On Sunday 11/20/2016 a search warrant was executed at the teen’s New Castle home in an attempt to locate items belonging to the victim.  The 16-year-old was taken into custody without incident and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief under $1,000, and theft under $1,500.

He was arraigned and released to his parents/guardians on a $3,000 unsecured bond.
