One Person Dead In Fatal Car Accident

Update

Houston – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred early Thursday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. Thursday December 22, 2016 as Samuel R. Ellers 3rd, 20 of Harrington, was operating a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck westbound on Williamsville Road approaching Hunting Quarter Road. Ellers failed to negotiate a moderate right curve and traveled off the south side of the roadway into a small ditch where it struck a culvert, propelling the truck airborne into a mailbox. The vehicle then struck a tree with its left side driver’s door and continued a short distance before striking another tree with its driver’s side door. The pick up re-entered the roadway and continued westbound where it came to a stop in a ditch on the south edge of the roadway facing in a northwesterly direction.

Samuel Ellers, who was properly restrained and the sole occupant of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Speed may have been a contributing factor in this case. Williamsville Road at Hunting Quarter Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
