Dover Man Drives SUV Through Elementary School

Felton – The Delaware State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash into an elementary school that occurred earlier this evening, Delaware State Police Public Information Officer, Master elementry-crash2Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said that the preliminary investigation reveals the incident occurred around 6:24 p.m. Wednesday January 18, 2017 as a 56-year-old Dover male was operating a 1999 Ford Explorer eastbound on Killens Pond Road.

For undetermined reason, the Explorer traveled off the north side of the road and traveled in a northeasterly direction across the grass and into the front office area of Lake Forest Central Elementary School, located at 5424 Killens Pond Road, where it came to a stop, said Fournier.

The 56-year-old male, who was properly restrained, was transported by EMS to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The school was unoccupied by staff at the time of the incident.
