Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala Celebrates Career and Retirement

New Castle – On Tuesday, January 31st, Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, the Adjutant General, Delaware National Guard will host an Open House, celebrating his career and retirement. The event begins

at 11 a.m. at the Joseph R. “Beau” Biden National Guard/Reserve Center, 250 Airport Road, New Castle, Del., and ends at 6 p.m.
The event is open to the public and media are invited to attend.

“It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Delaware and our United States of America. The Delaware National Guard has been a big part of my life it will be tough to say goodbye,” said Maj. Gen. Vavala. “My only hope is I was able to make a difference in the lives of our troops, and help posture the Delaware National Guard for success in the future.”

Vavala became the head of the Delaware National Guard in February 1999 after the retirement of Major General George Hastings. In January 2017, Vavala was promoted to Lieutenant General.

As the Adjutant General, Vavala was the highest-ranking member of the Delaware National Guard. He was responsible for managing the affairs of the Army and Air National Guard and for advising Governor of the State of Delaware, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Guard.

Following the open house at 7:00 p.m., Chaplain, Lt. Col. John Mink will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady of Fatima Church. 801 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, Del.
