Police Shut Down Market Street In Wilmington, 1 Dead, 1 Critical

Wilmington – Wilmington Police are advising the public to avoid the 2200 block of N. Market Street. Both North and Southbound lanes of N. Market Street are completely closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It is unknown the duration of the closures . Citizens are urged to avoid the area if at all possible and asked to find alternative routes of travel.

This morning, February 21, 2017, at approximately 10:54 a.m. Uniform Services Division officers responded to the area of 22nd and N. Market Street in reference to a shots fired investigation with a possible person down, according to police.

Arriving officers located two victims in the 2200 block of N. Market Street. One victim, described as a 23-year-old male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his head and was pronounced deceased on scene by New Castle County Paramedics.

The second victim, identified as a 23-year-male was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his right arm and chest areas. That victim was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room in critical condition.

The investigation is in the early stages and ongoing at this hour. Anyone with information relative to this investigation is asked to call Detective Devon Joned at 302-576-3631.
