Pair Charged With Stealing $23,000 In Cigarettes

New Castle – Delaware State Police have arrested two Wilmington men and charged them in connection with a series of burglaries that have occurred over the course of the last month and a half, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said that on Friday, March 17, 2017, Delaware State Police Burglary Unit Detectives arrested Ferdell F. Harvey, 57, and Timothy M. Reason Jr., 32, both of Wilmington, without incident during a traffic stop. Troopers stopped the pair following a burglary they were observed committing at the Speedway gas station, located at 506 N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, according to Fournier.

Detectives had developed Harvey and Reason as suspects in a series of burglaries that had occurred at area businesses during the month of February and March of this year, said Fournier. During the burglaries, Harvey and Reason would forcefully enter the establishments and remove cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the area, add Fournier.  The businesses reported a combined loss of $23,000.00 in cigarettes and tobacco products.

  • Tobacco City, 4637 Stanton Ogletown road, Newark, DE, Friday February 17, 2017 at 2:29 a.m.
  • Fairfax News Stand, 2121 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, Saturday February 18, 2017 at 3:01 a.m.
  • Tobacco Express, 1609 N. Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE, Thursday February 23, 2017 at 11:09 p.m.
  • Tobacco Shop, 1701 Marsh Rd, Wilmington, DE, Sunday February 26, 2017 at 8:07 p.m.
  • BP Station, 3507 Miller Road, Wilmington, DE, Wednesday March 1, 2017 at 3:52 a.m.

Ferdell Harvey and Timothy Reason were both charged by detectives with seven counts of Burglary 3rd, two counts of Attempted Burglary 3rd, eight counts of Possession of Burglary Tools, Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, six counts of Theft, Attempted Theft, nine counts of Conspiracy 2nd, and eight counts of Criminal Mischief. They were arraigned at JP Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $105,800.00 cash bail (Harvey) and $87,700.00 cash bail (Reason).
