DOC: Inmate Steals Car From Church, WANTED

Georgetown – On Thursday April 13 Matthew Davis of Bridgeville walked away from prison and is now wanted by the Department of Corrections (DOC), according to DOC Spokeswoman Kate Weber.

Weber tells First State Update that Davis absconded from the Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) in Georgetown after he willfully failed to return from an approved community service pass to , . While there Davis allegedly stole a vehicle from Delmarva Clergy, which is located on South Old State Road in Ellendale, according to Weber.

Davis’ whereabouts are unknown and unauthorized at this time, added Weber.

A Warrant for Escape after Conviction has been issued.

Community Corrections Centers are Level 4 facilities where the Department of Correction manages offenders who are transitioning back into the community. These centers are not secured like Level 5 prisons, as offenders are permitted to the leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs, or attend approved treatment sessions.

Davis was originally in prison for stealing a firearm, according to a statement released by the DOC.
