Happening Now: Shots Fired In Newark, Heavy Police Presence

Newark – At around 11:30 a.m. this morning State Police and New Castle County Police responded to a report of shots fired on Brookhill Drive in Newark.

Reports from the scene indicate that a man was shooting in the parking lot of the Brandywine Counseling Center located at 24 Brookhill Drive.

A witness at the scene said that he heard seven shots as he sat down for his meeting.  Another witness said the man with the gun was tackled and disarmed by another man in the building.

State Police Spokesman Master Corporal Jeffery Hale said that the incident is an active investigation and he could not comment.  Hale did confirm that there were no injuries during the incident.

Two individuals were seen being cuffed and taken away by police.

A car in the parking lot has several bullet holes in the side and the windows are shot out.

K-9 Units, evidence teams and a massive police presence were on scene.

No paramedics or ambulances were evident.
