Newark Man Wanted For Delaware City Home Invasion

Newark – The Delaware City Police are currently looking for a Newark man in connection with a home invasion that took place in Delaware City on Thursday, according to Delaware City Police Chief David Baylor.

Baylor said that around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2017, two men forced their way into a residence in the 300 block of Washington. While inside they accosted a 33-year-old female, said Baylor. A struggle ensued between the two men and the woman.

When the woman tried to call police one of the suspects took her cell phone and restrained her, while the other suspect opened the door to another room in the home, according to Baylor.

As she approached the suspects with the knife another struggle ensued, before the two men fled the residence on foot, said Baylor. They suspects were last seen running towards Third and Adams streets in Delaware City. Delaware Police along with New Castle County Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects.

Baylor said that through investigation police were able to positively identify Clayton J. Washington, 22, of Newark as one of the suspects in this incident.  Warrants have been issued for Washington’s arrest. He is facing once count of Home Invasion, two counts of Robbery 2nd and one count of Malicious Interference with an Emergency Call and Criminal Mischief.

The victim sustained minor injuries in connection with the incident.
