Happening Now: Accident Brings I-95 To A Crawl Near Maryland State Line

Newark – Just before 11:00 a.m. this morning, Friday, June 23, 2017, Crews from Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder responded to I-95 SB near Route 72 (South Chapel Street) for an incident involving a tractor-trailer. Arriving crews found a large fuel tank that had separated from the tractor-trailer, coming to rest in-between the north and southbound lanes of I-95.

Crews found the tank leaking diesel fuel into a nearby drainage ditch. After crews found the fuel flowing towards the nearby drain they requested assistance from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Emergency Response Unit and the Belvedere Fire Company’s HAZMAT team for clean-up.

Delaware State Police, DelDOT crews, Aetna’s Engine 9, DNREC and Belvedere remain on scene and are working to clear the scene.

Traffic is slow in both directions avoid the area.
