Maryland State Police Investigate Suspicious Death In Cecil County

Charlestown, MD.  – The Maryland State Police (MSP) Homicide Unit and criminal investigators assigned to the North East Barrack are investigating the death of a woman found on her boat in Cecil County, according to MSP Spokeswoman Elena Russo.

Russo said the deceased has not yet been identified. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Investigators hope an autopsy to be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will provide additional information.

The preliminary investigation indicates that shortly before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, troopers from the North East Barrack responded to a call from a man at the Charlestown Marina, located on the North East River. He told police he heard thrashing noises coming from inside a boat docked in the marina, said Russo. He subsequently boarded the boat to check on her and allegedly found her unresponsive, according to Russo.

Upon their arrival, emergency medical services personnel found the woman lying on the floor inside the cabin of her boat and unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No cause of death was immediately obvious to investigators. No one has been arrested or charged with any crimes at this time.

The boat is being processed by State Police crime scene technicians. The investigation continues.
