Update: Old Baltimore Pike Closed Due To Fatal Crash Involving A Motorcycle

Newark – Just before 4:00 p.m. this afternoon Delaware State Police, along with Christiana Fire Company responded to the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Able Drive for a report of motorcycle accident. Arriving units found a motorcycle in flames and a car with heavy damage.

Old Baltimore Pike is currently closed in both directions while police investigate.

We will have more information regarding this accident as the investigation unfolds.

The Delaware State Police (DSP) have released a statement regarding the accident:

Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred this afternoon.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m.today, Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Albe Drive, and involves a passenger car and a motorcycle.

As a result of the crash, one subject has been declared dead at the scene. It is unknown if there were any other injuries at this time.

Both directions of Old Baltimore Pike as well as Albe Drive have been closed and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel. 

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is enroute to the scene and will assume the investigation. More details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.

There is a discrepancy in the time that DSP has for the accident and the time that the fire department was dispatched. We will update that information in our next update
