Vehicle Reported Stolen, Newark Police Arrest Two

Newark – On June 20, 2017 at 2:03 a.m. a Newark Police Officer (NPD) was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle, a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, parked at one of the Wawa gas pumps, located at 601 Ogletown Road, according to NPD Spokesman Lt. Fred Nelson.

The officer conducted a license plate check on the vehicle’s registration and found that it had been reported stolen in New Castle County Police jurisdiction, said Nelson.

The officer observed a subject, later identified as Jawaun Jones, 18, of Newark, exit the stolen vehicle, enter Wawa, and then return to the vehicle, said nelson. The officer observed a second subject, later identified as Stephan Lloyd, 21, of Wilmington, seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, added Nelson.

The officer contacted both subjects and placed them under arrest. Lloyd was found with the vehicle key in his possession, according to Nelson. The officer later learned that the vehicle was allegedly stolen from the unit block of University Avenue, New Castle, DE between June 15, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. and June 16, 2017 at 6:19 a.m.

The owner was unsure if the vehicle was locked at the time of the theft and reported that the vehicle keys were left in the vehicle. Lloyd and Jones were both video arraigned in front of Justice of the Peace Court 11. Lloyd was given $2,000 cash bond and Jones was given $2,000 unsecured bond.

They were both charged with Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 and Conspiracy 2nd Degree.
