Dover Man Charged In Connection With Milford Shooting Death

Don R Martinez

Milford – Detectives from the Milford Police Department have charged a 34-year-old Dover man as an investigation into a early morning shooting at the Silver Lake Estates Apartment Complex continues, according to Milford Police Spokesman Robert Masten.

Maston said Milford Police have charged Don R. Martinez, 36 of Dover, with Murder 1st Degree, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

Investigation revealed that Martinez and Kevin M. King, 36 of Ellendale had engaged in a physical altercation, that eventually lead to Martinez firing multiple rounds from a handgun striking King, according to Masten.

Masten said King was reportedly removed from the scene by Mr. Martinez in a vehicle that was later located by Dover Police and the Delaware State Police near Route 10, with King being found deceased inside.

Martinez was apprehended near the abandoned vehicle by the Delaware State Police. A 31-year-old male was also wounded by gunfire during the incident and was treated at Bayhealth in Milford and released, said Masten. Martinez was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #7, where bail was set at $1,000,000.00 cash only. Martinez has been committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction at the Sussex Correctional Institution.
