Four Injured In Newark Crash, Child Flown To AI DuPont

Newark – Christina Parkway was closed last night for about two hours, between Elkton Road and Route 896 (South College Avenue), due to a major accident involving two vehicles.

Arriving crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder found a four patients trapped in two vehicles with heavy damage, one down an embankment.

Aetna immediately called for assistance from Christiana Fire Company, who quickly arrived on scene. Both fire companies were able to extricate all patients within minutes. Officers from the Newark Police department kept the road closed while they investigated the accident.

Witnesses  said the accident occurred when a passing car hit a guardrail and then bounced into oncoming traffic.

One patient was flown to AI DuPont. Three others were transported by Aetna Ambulance crews to the hospital.
