Man Flags Down Passing Car After Being Shot

Wilmington – On July 16, 2017 at approximately 11:06 pm, Uniform Services Division officer’s on Directed Patrol in the area of 7th and Washington Street notified dispatch of gunfire West of their location. As officer’s were responding into the area, information was received that a victim was located at 7th and N. Monroe Street and was being transported to the Wilmington Hospital via private vehicle, according to police.

Assisting officers responded to the Wilmington Hospital Emergency Room and located a 37-year-old male victim who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to his right hip and right foot. The victim is in stable condition.

Officials said a shooting scene was located at 7th and Monroe Street. The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking in the area of 7th and Monroe when he was passed on foot by two, unknown suspects. The suspects are described as black male juveniles. One of the unknown suspects then fired a handgun at the victim, striking him in the described areas. The victim was able to flag down a passing vehicle who provided him a ride to the hospital. Assisting officers and Criminal Investigations Division Detectives conducted an area search for the suspects which met with negative results.
