Sacajawea Arrested In Georgetown, Police Say She Tried To Run Down Woman With Her Car

Georgetown – Georgetown Police have arrested a woman after she allegedly attempted to strike a victim with her car and physically assaulting the victim, according to Public Information Officer Detective Joey Melvin.

Melvin said on Sunday, July 09, 2017 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Georgetown Police responded to an assault complaint in Dunbarton Apartments. Officers arrived at the apartment complex and contacted two females in the parking lot. Officers said they learned that the victim was standing in the parking lot when the suspect entered the parking lot operating a vehicle and accelerated toward the victim attempting to strike her, according to Melvin.

The victim was able to avoid being struck and ran into a stairwell of the apartment complex, said Melvin. The suspect then exited the vehicle and began to physically assault the victim by striking and kicking her, added Melvin. The victim was able to free herself and began to walk away at which time the suspect utilized a glass bottle and struck the victim on her head, according to Melvin.

Melvin said that the suspect then returned to her vehicle and again attempted to strike the victim by accelerating in her direction. The victim was able to avoid the collision and called 911. Officers took custody of the suspect on scene without incident. The victim sustained minor injuries to her head and arm resulting from the assault.

44-year-old Sacajawea Whaley, of Georgetown, Delaware was arrested for Reckless Endangering First Degree, Assault Third Degree, Criminal Mischief, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony. Whaley was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $8750.00 secured bail.
