House Fire In Bear, Multiple Families Possibly Displaced

Bear – (St Andrew’s Townhomes) Just before 12:00 p.m. today fire crews from around New Castle County responded to the unit block of Paisley Street for report of a townhouse on fire.

Reports from the scene indicated that an off duty firemen was on scene and advising dispatch that heavy fire was coming from the back of the building. Arriving units found heavy fire and smoke and began to battle the blaze.

Crews worked to knock down the fire on the first floor before moving to the second floor, finding heavy fire in the attic.  Ladder crews climbed on top of the home and cut holes in the roof to gain access to the fire.

The damage to the home is extensive and will most likely displace the residence in that home. Reports from scene indicate that the homes adjacent to the original home have sustained damaged as. Code enforcement is reportedly on its way to the scene to examine the damage to the entire structure.

The Red Cross has arrived on scene and assisting the displaced residence.

Reports indicate that a firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor burn.
