Milford – On July 7, 2017 at approximately 4:10 am, officers from the Milford Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a residence in the unit block of Northwest 2nd Street to a report of a violation of a no contact order, according to police.
Authorities said an investigation revealed Veronica L. Hurtt, 29 of Milford, reportedly attempted to make contact with the victim and gain entry to the victim’s home. Ms. Hurtt fled the scene prior to officers arrival, but she was apprehended nearby and taken into custody without incident. A no contact order was issued on July 12, 2017 by the Kent County Court of Common Pleas prohibits contact between the two.
Ms. Hurtt was charged with Breach of Release. Ms. Hurtt was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #7 in Dover, where bail was set at $1000.00 unsecured, along with another no contact order with the victim.
Following her release at approximately 9:12 am officers received a call from the victim stating Ms. Hurtt had returned again and was able to gain entry to the residence, according to police. Officials said that Ms. Hurtt damaged several items in the residence and once again fled the scene prior to officers arrival and was not able to be located after a search of the area.
Following the incident a warrant was obtained for Ms. Hurtt. At approximately 4:08 pm officers responded to Dollar General in the 600 block of North DuPont Boulevard (US Rt 113) to a report of a shoplifting. Investigation revealed a person matching the description of Ms. Hurtt was believed to have removed items with not paying for them, according to police. An officer located Ms. Hurtt in the area of West Street and Northwest 6th Street and she was taken into custody without incident. Further investigation identified Ms. Hurtt as reportedly being the person identified by Dollar General staff as the shoplifter.
Officials said Ms. Hurtt was found to have drug paraphernalia in her possession as she was taken into custody. Ms. Hurtt was then charged with Burglary Second Degree, Harassment, Criminal Mischief, and two counts of Breach of Release for the 9:12 am incident. Ms. Hurtt was presented at the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and for this case and bail was set at $6500.00 secured, along with an additional no contact order with the victim. For the incident at Dollar General incident bail was set at $550.00 unsecured, along with a no contact order with Dollar General. Ms. Hurtt was transported tor the Sussex Correctional Institution and turned over to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction.
