Crews Still Trying To Clear Massive Accident Scene On Route 1


Biddles Corner – Crews are still on scene clearing  and accident that occurred some six and a half hours ago. The accident on Route 1 sent multiple patients to area hospitals.

Update 2:30pm – Two patients flown to hospital, one via Trooper 4, the other via Christiana Hospital Aviation. A third was transported by ambulance. All were transported to trauma unit.

Biddles Corner – Fire crews from New Castle County are responding to North Bound Route 1 in the area of the toll plaza for reports of multi vehicle rollover accident with a possible ejection, Trooper 4 headed to scene.

Reports from the scene indicate that at least two vehicles have rolled over with three injuries, and one possible ejection.

The reports indicate that a child may be among the injured.

Delaware State Police have released a preliminary statement:

Middletown- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a multi-vehicle crash which occurred this afternoon on DE Rt. 1, Middletown.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred today, Thursday, August 17, 2017 at approximately 1:33 p.m., on southbound DE Rt. 1 in the area of the Biddles Toll Plaza and includes multiple vehicles including an overturned tractor-trailer. Injuries have been reported in the crash, however, the exact number and extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

Both the northbound and southbound EZ Pass lanes at the toll plaza have been closed to traffic and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel.

The investigation into this crash is in its early stages. More information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
