Happening Now: Route 273 Shutdown, Pedestrian Sent To Trauma, Woman, Infant To Hospital

New Castle – Delaware State Police are currently investigating a motor vehicle crash which has seriously injured a male pedestrian.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 10:29 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, August 22, on westbound DE 273 (Christiana Road) east of Airport Road, and involves a single motor vehicle and a male pedestrian. As a result of the crash both the pedestrian and the operator of the motor vehicle have sustained injuries and have been transported to the Christiana Hospital.

Both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of DE 273 have been closed to traffic. Commuters should expect delays in the area and are asked to seek alternate routes of travel.

The man was seriously injured in the accident. The woman and the her infant child were taken to the hospital for evaluation according to reports from the scene.

New Castle – Rescue Crews from around the county are on scene for reports of a pedestrian struck on Route 273 near Airport Road.

Reports indicate that 3 people were transported to the hospital by ambulance, including the person struck.
