Mattress Fire Sends Collins Park Woman To Trauma Center

Collins Park – This morning, at approximately 6:45 am, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Minquadale, Holloway Terrace, Good Will and Minquas Fire Companies were dispatched to the Unit Block of Landers Lane, for a house fire, according to New Castle County Paramedics Spokesman David McKinney Jr.

McKinney said arriving Fire Department personnel found a fire in a bedroom of the residence that was quickly brought under control. During their on scene operations, a 63-year-old female was found to be suffering from possible airway burns.

Command requested assistance from the County Paramedics for treatment and transport. The patient was transported to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the Minquas Fire Company with a New Castle County Paramedics accompanying. The patient was stable at the time of transport. The scene was under the command of Minquadale Fire Company.

The Office of the State Marshal was on scene and is investigating the incident, said McKinney.

Reports from the scene indicate that the mattress was on fire when firefighters arrived. A fire damaged mattress was observed outside of the home.
