Mystery Plane Orbiting New Castle County Airport

New Castle – People are wondering why all of the big jets are flying out of New Castle County Airport today.

A drive through the airport parking lot confirms that the airport isn’t operating a new airline service. So what could it be?

Turns out it’s a single white plane that’s flying around the skies over New Castle County.  The plane has no markings other than a blue line and an American Flag on the tail.

The plane, which has been observed from several locations throughout morning seems to be practicing some sort of maneuver. Sharp banking turns and quick take-offs went on for quite a while.

James Salmon, Spokesman for Delaware River and Bay Authority, which is responsible for public safety at the airport, tells First State Update that the plane is a USAF plane based at Joint Base Andrews.

The plane was doing practice ‘touch and goes’, added Salmon.

Touch and goes is a maneuver in which an aircraft touches the ground as in landing, and immediately takes off again.

Joint Base Andrews is located just outside of Washington, D.C. and is home to Air Force One.
