Newark Cops, Citizens Save Man Having Heart Attack, He Returns To Thank Them

Newark – On Sunday, July 16, 2017 the Newark Police responded to East Cleveland Avenue for a cardiac arrest of a subject inside of a vehicle. Cpl. Barnes and Officer Whitehead arrived on scene as two passersby, Mr. Baffone and Mr. Jeppe, were rendering aid to Mr. Rader. As Cpl. Barnes was removing Mr. Rader from the vehicle, M/Cpl. Ritchie of the Delaware State Police was driving by and stopped to assist.

M/Cpl. Ritchie started chest compressions as Officer Whitehead prepared the AED. A shock was delivered and lifesaving efforts continued. Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder and the New Castle County Paramedics arrived and assumed care.

On Wednesday, August 23rd, Mr. Rader and his wife came into the police department to thank Cpl. Barnes, Officer Whitehead, Mr. Baffone and Mr. Jeppe for their efforts in saving his life.
The community chain of two citizens, Dispatchers, Police, EMT’s and Paramedics all led to this wonderful reunion.
