Delaware – This weekend is loaded with things to do up and down the state.

Delaware Burger Festival – Delaware’s restaurants/chefs compete with each othere to see has the best burger. They’ll put their best burgers forward for your judgment. Your votes will determine the People’s Choice Winner. This years event will benefit the Ministry of Caring’s Emmanuel Dining Room and Delaware ProStart.

Delaware Taco Festival –  Go hungry as there will be over 25 of the areas BEST restaurants & food purveyors showcasing a variety of traditional, unique and delicious tacos! Tacos are Pay-As-You-Go, except tacos included in VIP Package, according to their website. Musical Entertainment, Tequila Tasting and Margaritas will be available at this years festival.

Thunder Over Dover – Dover Air Force Base is holding it’s first open house in 9 years. The base will host “Thunder Over Dover”, a free two-day event that will feature aerial demonstrations by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, along with many others. The event will also display current and historical aircraft that kids of all ages can explore. The gates will open at 9:00 am August 26 and 27. The opening ceremony will be held on Saturday the 26th at 10:00 am. The show will begin at 11:00 am and wrap up at 5:00 pm on both days.

The Great Train Robbery – The Wilmington Railroads most anticipated family-friendly summer event returns as an all-new wild west adventure – totally rewritten, revised and reworked. The cast of Act 1 Productions captures the train with their villains, desperados, renegades, outlaws, music and singers! Get on board for a fun-filled afternoon you and the kids are sure to enjoy. This is an approximately 2-hour round-trip to the Mt. Cuba Picnic Grove, which includes a half-hour layover at the Picnic Grove.

Fort Delaware – Fort Delaware, the Union fortress dating back to 1859, once housed Confederate prisoners of war. It was originally built to protect the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia. Visitors take a half-mile ferry ride from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island. A jitney provides transport from the island dock to the granite and brick fortress. Here, costumed reenactors take you back to the summer of 1864. Fill your day with hands-on history. Help the blacksmith in the forge or work with the laundress, and see the 8-inch Columbiad cannon fire a live gunpowder charge! See a replica of Pea Patch Island as it appeared in 1864 and artifacts from the Island’s past. Make a day of it and visit Fort Mott in New Jersey as well! Sandwiches are available at the Delaware City ticket shop, and light snacks and drinks may be purchased in the Fort gift shop. If you like, you can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in our picnic area – tables and grills are provided. Don’t forget sunscreen & bug-spray. Please wear comfortable shoes (no open-toed shoes) and dress for the weather.

Fenwick Island Farmer’s Market – Known as one of coastal Delaware’s “Quiet Resorts”, family friendly Fenwick Island boasts some of the most expansive recreational beaches on the east coast. Now the Fenwick Island Farmers’ Market (open twice weekly) provides another great local resource- an abundance of farm fresh fruits and vegetables- for locals and visitors alike to savor and enjoy. Let our farmers supply your family gathering with the luscious tastes of Delaware sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches and melons. Come see what else coastal Delaware has to offer at the Fenwick Island Farmers’ Market. The market runs for a 12 week season from June 17 through September 8, 2017. Free parking is available in the grassy lot where the market is located.
