Early Morning House Fire Leaves Man In Critical Condition

Marshallton – This morning, at approximately 3:40 am, New Castle County Paramedics and multiple fire departments were dispatched to the 4400 block of Verona Drive, for a house fire, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal David J. McKinney, Jr.

McKinney said arriving County Paramedics found a house that was on fire and fire department working to extinguish the fire. Fire department personnel rescued one victim from the residence and removed them for Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians to begin treatment.

The patient, a 91-year-old man, was treated on scene for burns to the head and airway. The patient was transported in critical condition to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital on board and ambulance from the Five Points Fire Company with New Castle County Paramedics accompanying.

The Office of the State Fire Marshall was on scene and is investigating the fire.
