Second Fire In Less Than A Week At UD-Area Student Housing, Same Neighborhood

Newark – Crews from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, assisted by crews from the Christiana Fire Company have responded to North Street in Newark for reports of a duplex on fire.

Arriving crews from Aetna made entry into the home and found a kitchen fire in the University of Delaware area home. Crews cleared the home, finding no occupants in the home.

The fire was brought under control quickly after crews arrived on scene. Fire did not spread to the adjacent home and no injuries were reported.

This is the second fire to occur in this neighborhood in less than a week.

Last Friday, September 29, 2017 a fire in this same neighborhood, on Wibur Street, left four UD students displaced. That fire was determined to be accidental by the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Assistant Chief Jeff Sands had command of today’s fire scene on North Street.
