Rescue Crews Save Dog That Fell Through The Ice At Carousel Park

Pike Creek – At approximately 11:30 this afternoon rescue crews from the Mill Creek Fire Company, along with members of the Minquas Fire Company Water Rescue Team, New Castle County Police, Paramedics and Christiana Fire Company responded to Carousel Park for reports of dog falling through the ice.

Reports from the scene indicate that responding crews found the dog stuck on the ice in the park’s large pond, which was partially frozen over. The dog had chased geese onto the ice and was unable to get back to land. At one point someone threw a life preserver into the water, giving rescuers more time to get into the water.

The dog, described as a large dog with long brown hair, was rescued when a rescue swimmer slide across the ice and grabbed the dog, according to reports from the scene.  As the swimmer grabbed the dog other rescuers pull them back to land using a tether rope.

The dog was scared but seemed to be fine, according to the reports. Once on land the dog was transported to a local animal hospital for evaluation.
