St. Georges – This afternoon, at approximately 12:25, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Odessa, Delaware City and Port Penn Fire Companies were dispatched to Route 1 Northbound in the area of the C&D canal, for a motor vehicle crash, reported to be serious, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal David J. McKinney, Jr.

McKinney said arriving County Paramedics found a patient who was involved in a one vehicle crash in the care of fire department personnel. The patient, a 29-year-old female, was the lone occupant of the vehicle involved in the crash. She was treated on scene by County Paramedics for head and facial injuries and a possible abdominal injury.

The patient was transported to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the Delaware City Fire Company with New Castle County Paramedics accompanying. The patient was stable at the time of transport.

Reports from the scene indicate that the woman slammed into a Jersey Barrier at high speed and was transported to the hospital with a trauma alert. It’s unclear if today’s wet roads played a part in the accident.

The Delaware State Police were on scene and are investigating the crash.
