Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Newark area gas station that occurred overnight, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 12:58 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Exxon gas station, located at 4600 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark. Two black female suspects entered the business and began browsing, under the premise of making a purchase. Soon after, two black male suspects entered and approached the 55-year-old male employee at the sales counter. One suspect displayed a knife, while the second suspect implied that he was armed with a handgun, according to Austin.

Immediately upon being confronted, the employee vaulted the counter and fled the business. All four suspects remained inside at which time they removed an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing on foot, northbound on Harmony Road. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspects could only be described as two black males and two black females, wearing all dark clothing. Additionally, both male suspects had their faces concealed throughout the incident.
