Newark High School Evacuated After Fire Discovered In Bathroom

Newark – Just before 10:00 this morning firefighters from Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder responded to Newark High School for reports of a fire in one of the school’s bathrooms.

“Newark High School was briefly evacuated due to a small fire in a bathroom.  Students have returned to the building to retrieve their belongings and are being dismissed early due to the impending inclement weather.”, said Newark Police Lt. Fred Nelson.

At approximately 10:15 a Deputy with the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the incident.

Reports from the scene indicate that the school resource officer, a Newark Police Officer, requested additional officers to the scene to assists with the evacuation.  Ambulance crews did not respond to the school and no injuries have been reported.
