Wilmington Sees It’s First Shooting Of 2018, One To Hospital

Wilmington – On Tuesday, 02 January 2018, at approximately 2:04 am, Wilmington Police were summoned to the 2700 block of W. 5th Street reference shots fired, according to authorities.

Officials said upon their arrival, they observed several spent shell casings in the block and two, unoccupied, motor vehicles were struck. At the time, no victims were found at the scene.

Witnesses report that they observed a grey Mercury motor vehicle fleeing the scene, according to police.

Officers on routine patrol in spotted a vehicle matching the description, located in the parking lot of 1022 Delaware Avenue (Dash In), with two occupants in the vehicle. The vehicle sustained a flat tire and what appeared to be bullet strikes on the car, according to police.

Officers discovered a 28-year-old man, the driver, suffering from a single gun shot wound to rear of his right shoulder. The front passenger was not injured.

The man was transported to St. Francis Hospital for his injuries and was later released.
