Quick Thinking Trash Truck Driver Saves Truck From Fire, I-495 Down To One Lane

Wilmington – Just after 9:30 this morning Delaware State Police, along with firefighters from the Minquadale Fire Company have responded to I-495 NB in the area of N DuPont Highway for reports of a trash truck on fire.

Upon arrival crews found a load of trash that was on fire on the shoulder. A quick thinking trash truck driver apparently realized his load was on fire and dumped it on the road to save the truck.

Crews quickly brought the most of the blaze under control out are now putting out hot spots. At 9:56 Minquadale Command has asked for a tanker truck for more water.

Route I-495 NB is currently down to one lane. Once the fire is out crews will work to clear the debris from the roadway. Expect delays

10:10 am All lanes shutdown to allow tanker to drive SB on the NB lanes.
