Tour Bus Fire Shuts Down I-495 On Sunday

Claymont – At approximately 3:40  yesterday afternoon firefighters from the Claymont Fire Company, along with Delaware State Police responded to I-495 northbound at the I-95 northbound merge for reports of a passenger bus on fire.

Upon arrival, crews found the bus smoking with all thirty-five passengers evacuated. Crews were able to bring the fire under control within minutes.  The passengers, a group of tours from China, were transported, with their luggage, to Pennsylvania Welcome Center to await a replacement bus.

No injuries were reported.

The roadway was closed for approximately two hours as crews worked to remove the bus.
