Police: Quick Response By Newark Police Nets Two Fleeing Suspects

Newark – Newark Police were dispatched to an apartment building in the 600 block of Lehigh Road for a report of males climbing through the window of an apartment, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said responding officers found two males running from the rear of the building upon arrival. Both subjects were quickly taken into custody following a brief foot chase, according to Rubin.

One of the males was identified as Legend Mangum, 20, of Newark, and the other was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile, of Newark.  Rubin said that the apartment was vacant and no property was taken. During the investigation police did not find any damage to the apartment either.

Rubin said during a search of Mangum, suspected heroin was found in his possession. Both subjects were transported to the Newark Police Department where  Mangum was charged with Criminal Trespass 1st Degree, Conspiracy 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Heroin. The 17-year-old juvenile was charged with Criminal Trespass 1st Degree, Conspiracy 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest.

Mangum appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was released on $2,000 unsecured bond. The juvenile appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was released on his own recognizance to an adult.
