Police Update South College Avenue Shots Fired Incident

Newark – On Saturday March 17, 2018 at approximately 8:47 a.m. the Newark Police responded to the area of the Red Roof Inn, 1119 South College Avenue, for a report of a shot fired, according to Sgt. Gerald J. Bryda.

Bryda said officers learned that two subjects were in a vehicle and were leaving the hotel, when a Honda Pilot pulled in behind them. A male suspect got out of the Honda and confronted the male victim and struck him with a handgun, according to Bryda.

The male victim fled the area on foot, being chased by the armed suspect. Bryda said during this time, a round was fired from the handgun, however, no one was struck. The suspect fled the area in the Honda with a second suspect in the vehicle.

This investigation is in its initial stages and is being investigated as possibly domestic related. This incident did not involve University of Delaware students, and there is not an ongoing threat to anyone in the area.

Breaking Report

Newark – The Newark Police Department is investigating a report of shots fired in the area of South College Avenue and I-95, according to alert sent out by the University of Delaware Police.

A black Honda Pilot (possible DE temp tag) may be involved and fled north on South College Avenue. Any info contact NPD 302-366-7111.

It’s believed that the incident occurred sometime this morning.
