Smyrna Traffic Stop Nets 2,405 Bags Of Heroin, Three Arrested

Smyrna – On Wednesday, March 23, 2018, at approximately 8 p.m., a Smyrna Police Officer (SPD) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for registration violations on US 13 at Monrovia Avenue, according to police.

Officials said during the course of the stop, it was determined that illegal substances may be contained within the vehicle. Officers conducted a search, which resulted in the location and seizure of 2,405 bags of heroin (approx. 16.8 grams) packaged for sale, according to police.

Officers also located and seized $1,343 in cash, which is suspected of being the proceeds from illegal drug sales. Officers took James Dobbins, 30 of Dover, Kiree Wise, 27 of Newark and John White, 28 of Wilmington into custody.

During the investigation on-scene, Mr. Dobbins was able to escape from the rear of a patrol vehicle and flee on foot while handcuffed, police said. He was located a short distance away in the woods by officers and an SPD K9 team and re-secured after a brief struggle. The 3 Suspects were charged and arraigned in JP #7 with the following;

James Dobbins: Possesses a control substance in a Tier 5 quantity, Resisting arrest with force/violence that injures/or struggles with peace officer, Conspiracy 2nd, Theft under 1500, Escape 3rd (Committed to DOC in lieu of $23,000 cash bond) (Additionally committed on burglary warrants from DSP Troop 3 and an administrative warrant from Probation and Parole)

Kiree Wise: Possesses a control substance in a Tier 5 quantity, Conspiracy 2nd (Committed to DOC in lieu of $21,000 cash bond)

John White: Possesses a control substance in a Tier 5 quantity, Conspiracy 2nd, Driving while suspended or revoked, Failure to have insurance identification in possession, Fictitious or cancelled registration, Operate MV with aftermarket tint. (Committed to DOC in lieu of $21,000 cash bond)
