Update: Police Arrest Son Shot By His Father At Lewes Beach House

Coffin - Lewes Police

Lewes -The City of Lewes Police Department has arrested Spencer Coffin, 31, of Breakwater Street, for his involvement in a domestic related shooting, where he was shot one time in the upper torso, according to Lewes Chief of Police Thomas Spell.

Spell said the extended investigation has concluded with the determination that the victim was forced to protect their self against Spencer Coffin, as a result of his menacing and aggressive behavior.

The incident occurred on Friday December 1, 2017, at approximately 6:58 pm. Sussex Communications dispatched the Lewes Police to a residence on Breakwater Street after receiving a 911 call. The male caller advised that he had just shot his son after a domestic argument, according to Spell.

Upon arrival, the Lewes Police Department with assistance from the Delaware State Police, were able to secure the dwelling and take one person of interest into custody. The gunshot victim was transported by private vehicle to Beebe Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and chest area.

On March 15th, 2018, Lewes Police responded to the Sussex Correctional Institute, where Coffin was being held on unrelated charges and formally arrested him for Crimes Against a Vulnerable Adult, a Felony, Menacing, a Class A Misdemeanor, Possession/Consumption of Cocaine, a Class A Misdemeanor and Breach of Conditions of Release, a unclassified Misdemeanor.

Update: No charges are pending against anyone else involved in this incident, according to Spell.
