House Fire Leaves One Dead In Smyrna

Smyrna – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating yesterday’s fire, where one person was found deceased inside a house trailer, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal, Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before 1:00 pm, occurred in the 200 block of West Big Woods Road near Route 13. The Citizens Hose Company of Smyrna arrived on the scene with flames pouring from the dwelling.

Firefighters discovered one person inside the home deceased, according to Chionchio.

After firefighters brought the fire under control state fire investigators were searched for the fire’s origin and cause. They have not released that information at this time. The body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science were an autopsy will be performed.

Chionchio said there were no smoke alarms in the house trailer.

There were no other injuries reported.

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal estimated the heavy fire damage at $20,000.
